The Climbing Dune of Schoorl
The Climbing Dune of Schoorl is undoubtedly the best known of the three. Situated in the village centre, it forms the gateway to Schoorl Dunes National Park. Children can spend hours climbing, running and rolling down the sand, while parents enjoy a cup of coffee on one of the nearby terraces. From the top, you'll have beautiful views over the village and the surrounding dunes.
The Climbing Dune of Bregtdorp
If you prefer peace and quiet, take a walk or bike ride towards Bregtdorp. Here you'll find the second climbing dune, surrounded by nature. There are no crowds, shops or cafés—just sand, trees and birdsong. It's the perfect place for a relaxing walk, a picnic or for children to play outdoors. This climbing dune is located along Oorsprongweg, near the junction with Koningsweg. Once you've reached the top, you can continue your walk to the Catrijper Nok. At 55.4 metres above sea level, it is the highest dune in the Schoorl Dunes and the highest point in the province of North Holland, offering spectacular panoramic views.
The Hidden Climbing Dune of Groet
Perhaps the area's best-kept secret is the Climbing Dune of Groet. Many visitors don't even know it exists, making it the perfect place to enjoy nature in complete tranquillity. The dune is hidden among the trees near Wagenmakersweg and Groeterweg. Children can climb and play to their heart's content, while you enjoy the peaceful atmosphere that makes Groet so special. As if that weren't enough, you'll also find a hidden World War II bunker right next to the dune. This bunker was once part of the Atlantic Wall and serves as a reminder of the area's wartime history. Hidden among the trees, it adds a touch of adventure to every walk. Children especially love discovering this unexpected piece of history.
